ICAN and Creighton University Announce “IMPACT” – A New Leadership Development Program for Graduate Level Credit to Help Individuals Lead Impactful, High-Performing Teams
ICAN (The Institute for Career Advancement Needs) and the Creighton University Heider College of Business are excited to announce an educational partnership in bringing a new, first of its kind, leadership development program to the Omaha business community and beyond. IMPACT is an 8-session program - over the course of 5 months – with a curriculum for developing people managers to make a stronger impact on their teams and, in return, have a greater impact on their organizations. Upon completion of this high-level program recipients will earn 6 graduate level credits through Creighton University that can be applied toward a degree or certificate through Creighton Business Institute.
The inaugural class begins June 18, 2015 and runs through the end of October, with additional series scheduled to begin in December 2015 and June 2016. Registration and additional details are available at icanglobal.net.
In ICAN’s efforts to diversify and evolve its programs to serve the interests of Omaha’s corporate community, this program provides another level of leadership development designed for individuals who manage teams. IMPACT serves up the quality of an upper-level education experience targeted for leaders at a mid-level management stage in their leadership journey.
“The combination of ICAN and Creighton University creating a new leadership program and offering it through the Heider College of Business for graduate business credit is very exciting! Creighton University was a natural partner for us in this endeavor as we hold similar philosophies about what leadership means now and in the future,” shares ICAN President and CEO, Susan Henricks.
“This unique program to Omaha will be an outstanding learning experience to learn how to lead high performing teams. IMPACT's program leaders both have real world business experience and the knowledge of business theory and best practice.”
IMPACT is unique in its discovery-based, aggressive and highly interactive format that goes beyond the typical leadership training experience. Participants will engage in unique models, real-life scenarios, case studies, assessments, and a project applied within their company to truly enhance understanding, provide concrete takeaways and encourage adoption of learning. ICAN and Creighton believe development of leaders and teams must be based on best practices, experiential, peer and – most importantly – sustainable learning.
Topics explored in IMPACT will include differences between managing and strategic leading; and how to assemble a productive team, mitigate threats to team effectiveness, execute proper change management, conduct performance appraisals, resolve conflict and provide feedback, and make trust a shared responsibility.
As is common with ICAN and Creighton University programs, participants will be connected to a strong network of peers from varying industries and career fields. Facilitators will be Dr. Todd Darnold, Heider College of Business Professor and Director of Leadership Programs, and ICAN Program Leader, Nicole Bianchi.
“IMPACT is all about delivering evidence based tools that leaders can use immediately in their work context”, said Darnold. “IMPACT will blend the best of the academic classroom with the best of a corporate leadership development program. The material presented will be the same as would be presented at a top university based executive education program, but will be delivered more conveniently for the local corporate market.”
